These tomatoes have met their matches, or perhaps we should say soul/soup mates. The small cup is from Germany (marked on base) & the shaker is from Japan. The shaker is marked Maruhon Ware & Hand Painted Japan, with a U.S. patent implying it was made (or designed, at least) circa 1870. Japan called itself Nippon until 1921, so that is the earliest this could have been made, & the 1940s seems stylistically likely. NOTE: the shaker has a piece of green clay in it - perhaps to make a sound, or to break up salt if it clumps. Don’t be alarmed by the noise. The cup is 3 1/8 x 2 3/8 x 2. The shaker is 2 3/16 x 2 1/8 x 1 7/8. Tomato Shaped Knick Knacks - C. 1940S
