Rainforest. Lush & profuse. (Replete with the elves she loved so when she was little.) The Pacific Coastal Temperate Rainforest is a place of unsurpassed magnificence, teeming with green life; it is one of the most dense & prolific ecosystems on Earth. These trees are Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata), growing to 130 feet & living to 1,000 years. They are common on the Pacific coast & in the wetter ecosystems throughout the Southern Interior of British Columbia. First Nations people used the bark extensively to weave baskets, blankets, clothing & other household objects; & the wood to make canoes, utensils & buildings. Extracts from the oil of its scale-like leaves were (and are) used for their sweet-smelling & antiseptic properties.
