This is a beautiful early American primitive cross stitch in a simple wooden frame. The cross stitch has a verse in the centre ’ Joy be with you while you stay, peace be with you on your way’. An Amish pony & trap has been stitched at the bottom & at the top a welcoming fireside scene with an open fire, candlesticks, a fire screen & a comfortable chair. The whole things has a stitched border in pale lilac & black. The picture has been worked on linen. The frame has delicate decorative details & is a subtle moss green. This is a delightful piece of work which has most likely been completed by a young girl. It has a glass front & the colours have been well preserved & the piece is in good condition.
